Spiral Perm

Spiral Perm

Spiral perms first started to take hold of the nation in the early eighties where big hair was all the rage as were even bigger shoulder pads! These days however, spiral perms seem to be a thing of the past and anyone that dares leave their house with this kind of hairstyle is likely to receive some comment about being an eighties reject.

Believe it or not, despite the bad press that spiral perms have received ever since the eighties were dead and gone, there are still some people that actually make this hairstyle look good. Alex Kingston is of course one of them but her spiral perm is a natural one and not a bad after effect of a particularly rubbish hair stylist!

The difference between the spiral perm and other kinds of perm is more or less the way that it is done in the hairdressers. It uses the same products such as the setting lotions and other such things but the way in which the hair is actually curled is quite different.

Rather than using smaller sized rollers to curl the hair, longer ones are used that tend to be slimmer and the hair is wrapped around them in a fashion that can only really be described as corkscrew or spiral, hence the name, spiral perm.

Although the spiral perm is very much out of fashion at the moment, there is no doubt that it will soon be making a comeback seeing as the eighties fashion trend of neon colors and leggings seem to be back in trend right now!
