Culture Of Braided Hairstyles Continues in 2012
The past few years have shown an increase in the hairstyle trend for women wearing braids. This ancient custom of braiding hair, has shown itself to be a priceless way to add beauty and style to ones own hair. In Egypt, the women added braiding to their hair to mark a special occasion. Most of them had short hair so they relied on black wigs that were decorated with gold and ivory decorations and braided in many different ways. Today, braided styles are not only used for daily wear but still show up for special celebrations and occasions.

African culture shows the prevalence of braids but the history was never documented as it was with the Egyptians. Both men and women in the African culture braided their hair. This was shown through the various engravings and sculptures. In certain parts of Africa, hair braiding was reserved for the young men who were about to emerge from childhood into a recognized adult by the tribe. Women in this time shaved their heads instead of letting it grow. American Indians, both male and female, have been documented as wearing braided hair. Most of them added feather decorations to the braids. Europe and American immigrants brought with them unique and intricate braiding styles.
Today, braided hair has emerged into a unique hairstyle subculture all across the globe. Women of all ages are showing their uniqueness with trendy braids. The younger generation is wearing braids in a casual way with pigtails or side braided ponytails. More mature women are adding a touch of class to their outfit by sweeping their braided style in an up do. The french braid is still a classic for all ages. Braids across the top of the head are perfect for keeping longer hair away from the face and adding a new dimension to the hair. Photo Copyright of PR PHOTOS
